Our Story

My husband Jason and I would like to formally introduce ourselves. We are a blended faith based family with 5 awesome kiddos between the two of us! I have 2 daughters, and Jason has a son from our previous marriages and together we have 2 sons. We have been married 8 years and both grew up in Fort Wayne.

How we arrived to becoming the owners of House Of Pins, interestingly requires some intimate transparency of our journey. During the late summer months of 2022, we unexpectedly stumbled across our now forever home on Sundown and knew right away this was not a coincidence. Here is why...

My husband and I learned 5 years ago all too well how precious life is through the miracle gift of our son Brody Mitchel McMillan. Diagnosed in utero at 12 weeks with a deadly chromosome abnormality, Brody’s chance at life was already decided for him by doctors as “NOT VIABLE”. But God had other plans. Brody surpassed medical statistics and lived a life of love for over 5 weeks! He made every single breath of his life count to the fullest. Because of him, our family has been determined to do the same, but it has been a struggle.

Back to discovering 2010 Sundown Lane. To have randomly come across this hidden gem of a neighborhood, surrounded by miles of beautiful nature just like we had been longing for, God definitely got our attention. But then to further learn that this property housed a 2 full lane bowling alley within a huge attached building, a vision emerged.

Since loosing Brody, our lives painfully hungered to find a way to live out the message of his life. It was obvious to us that House of Pins was the perfect avenue to making this happen. You see Brody tore the scales off of our eyes revealing the skewness that still very much exists in todays world. Brody saw the world through the lens to which God intended, where no labels existed, no “one size fits all” standards were the norm nor were “boxes” used as categories for people to be placed in, just LOVE.

It was quickly decided, we would take a leap of faith and pursue this house to become not just our new home, but our new mission field.

We trusted that by creating House of Pins for ALL abilities, the lens to which one sees the world, even if just one, is forever changed. It is our prayer that through designing House of Pins as an adaptive, ADA compliant, sensory friendly recreational rental venue for ALL abilities, my husband and I will now finally be able to achieve what Brody was able to do in just 5 weeks!

Now that I have shared our back story, I pray it will provide you the foundation of understanding as to how House of Pins came to be. It is our goal for House Of Pins to be a venue where memories are to be made, new experiences to be had and time with family, friends, coworkers, clients of ALL abilities are to be cherished. Our son taught us that blessings are better served when shared. Therefore, our mission is to provide a safe and intimate venue for families, churches and local businesses within our community who are desiring a unique, private location for entertainment.

Our family is especially passionate in partnering with organizations that serve persons with special needs, physically disabled and/or elderly populations. Being also parents to an amazing son with Autism, along with our son Brody who had both cognitive and physical special needs, we are committed to providing rental access to include those who would not otherwise have the opportunities to experience bowling and/or other recreational activities in the traditional capacity.

Regardless of age or ability, our sensory friendly, limited capacity environment, we believe will solidify our inclusion business model. At House of Pins may all feel respectfully welcomed, accepted and valued!

Sincerely,
Sarah and Jason McMillan
